Pizza and Pasta: Man's Greatest Foe?

I could go on and on about role of gluten and inflammation in the body. I cannot tell you the countless number of cases I see of chronic serious inflammatory conditions that get significantly better when gluten is removed from the diet.

More then 55 diseases have been linked to gluten, the protein found in wheat, rye, and barley. It’s estimated that 90% of the people who have either gluten intolerance or celiac disease are never diagnosed.

It is also estimated that as much as 15% of the US population is gluten intolerant. Could you be one of them?

If you have any of the following symptoms it could be a sign that you have gluten intolerance:

1. Digestive issues such as gas, bloating, diarrhea and even constipation. I see the constipation particularly in children after eating gluten.

2. Keratosis Pilaris, (also known as ‘chicken skin’ on the back of your arms). This tends be as a result of a fatty acid deficiency and vitamin A deficiency secondary to fat-malabsorption caused by gluten damaging the gut.

3. Fatigue, brain fog or feeling tired after eating a meal that contains gluten.

4. Diagnosis of an autoimmune disease such as Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Rheumatoid arthritis, Ulcerative colitis, Lupus, Psoriasis, Scleroderma or Multiple sclerosis.

5. Neurologic symptoms such as dizziness or feeling of being off balance.

6. Hormone imbalances such as PMS, PCOS or unexplained infertility.

7. Migraine headaches.

8. Diagnosis of chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia. These diagnoses simply indicate your conventional doctor cannot pin point the cause of your fatigue or pain.

9. Inflammation, swelling or pain in your joints such as fingers, knees or hips.

10. Mood issues such as anxiety, depression, mood swings and ADD.


How to test for gluten intolerance at home?

I have found the single best ways to determine if you have an issue with gluten is to do an elimination diet and take it out of your diet for at least 2 to 3 weeks and then reintroduce it. Please note that gluten is a very large protein and it can take months and even years to clear from your system so the longer you can eliminate it from your diet before reintroducing it, the better.

The best advice that I share with my patients is that if they feel significantly better off of gluten or feel worse when they reintroduce it, then gluten is likely a problem for them. In order to get accurate results from this testing method you must elimination 100% of the gluten from your diet.


How to treat gluten intolerance?

Eliminating gluten 100% from your diet means 100%. Even trace amounts of gluten from cross contamination or medications or supplements can be enough to cause an immune reaction in your body.
The 80/20 rule or “we don’t eat it in our house, just when we eat out” is a complete misconception. An article published in 2001 states that for those with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity eating gluten just once a month increased the relative risk of death by 600%.

Nine foods you should never eat again

 With so much misinformation out there about food and how it affects human health, making healthy food choices for you and your family can be difficult and confusing. There are a number of specific foods; however, that you will want to avoid in almost every circumstance because they provide virtually no health benefits while posing plenty of health risks. Here are nine foods you should never eat again if you care about preserving your long-term health: 

1) White bread, refined flours. By definition, white bread and refined flours in general are toxic for your body because they have been stripped of virtually all vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other important nutrients. Because of this, the body does not know how to properly digest and assimilate these so-called foods, which can lead to health problems. Refined white flour has also been bleached with chlorine and brominated with bromide, two poisonous chemicals that have been linked to causing thyroid and organ damage. 2) Conventional frozen meals. Diet Soda: A Really Bad Beverage

Vascular events" have now been added to the widely known laundry list of ill-effects of diet sodas. An eye-opening study published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine shows that individuals who drink diet soft drinks on a daily basis may be at increased risk of suffering vascular events such as stroke, heart attack, and vascular death.
Researchers from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and the Columbia University Medical Center studied the soda-drinking habits of 2,564 people in a multi-ethnic, urban population over a 10-year period, and discovered that daily drinkers had a 43 percent higher risk of having a vascular event than non-drinkers.  
In today's fast paced climate, where zero calorie sodas find their way in many people's daily lives as an assumed healthier alternative to sugary drinks, many are disregarding much solid evidence showing that diet sodas are associated with multiple side effects.   
The Ingredients:
Caffeine is quite dehydrating.  For every ounce of soda, one needs 2 ounces of water to handle the toxin level.  Caffeine causes irritability and palpitations in some.  Caffeine elevates cortisol levels which contributes to weight gain, metabolic syndrome and diabetes.  It is addictive in nature and depletes B-vitamins, especially B1 (thiamine).  Fatigue, nervousness, general aches and pains, and headaches are all symptoms of a low B1 level.  This level can be assessed by your physician.  It contributes to a general malabsorptive state, and therefore depletes a variety of minerals as well, leading to fatigue and muscle cramps.  
The FDA granted aspartame, which is 200 times sweeter than sugar,  a "generally recognized as safe" status, or GRAS.  It is composed of two amino acids – phenylalanine and aspartic acid,  and contains 10% methyl alcohol, a light volatile  flammable liquid alcohol used as a solvent and anti-freeze. It is a known neurotoxin.  
Saccharin is quite dangerous as well. It is a non-caloric petroleum derivative and is 300 times sweeter than sugar. It is excreted unchanged in the urine being that it is not modified by the body.
 Phosphoric acid's acidic nature dissolves calcium out of the bones.  Caucasian women in particular have been shown to suffer from osteoporosis in the setting of high phosphoric acid intake (soda & coffee).
In spite of this study and prior research on the ill-effects of diet drinks, the diet soda industry is not going downhill after this study, especially being that soft drinks in general account for more than a quarter of all drinks consumed in the United States.

Please read the long list of lipsticks that were tested for lead.
The FDA sets the upper limit of lead in lipsticks is 0.1ppp.
Hmmm, so if you apply lipstick 4 times daily... is that 0.4 total for the day ok? NOT
What if your 3 year old plays with your lipgloss?? Hmmm

Sounds like FDA states that a little lead is ok.
Of course!
They also said that a little arsenic in apple juice is OK. Does anyone remember the on-screen battle between FDA and Dr. Oz??

Be proactive. Take a stand. Why would you spend your hard-earned dollars on a product that is potentially toxic?
Honestly, do we need a study to tell us continued, daily, repeated use of lead on our lips may be harmful.
